Let your kids carry their backpack. In my experience working in schools there is an upward trend of parents/caregivers holding the backpack for the child. This is a mistake. This is a literal example of carrying their own weight. W e are such nice people we want to help our kids so much but we do it to a fault. This speaks to the dialogue about being too comfortable .We have crossed the line of doing too much for them. In my conversations with community parents I get the sentiment that there is guilt for spending so much time distracted physically or mentally at work.
This recent Covid-19 Pandemic was the chance young families needed to learn how to budget, balance work and home life and spend quality time together, Mostly watching Trolls World Tour and Frozen II. But honestly, look at your life as a parent or child and see how much you’re taking on from your children's’ bag of independence. Whether it is cutting the phone bill or making them carry their own backpack. It is the first step to independence. For both parents and strong, successful young people.
This is absolutely true. This is one of the ways we can teach our children responsibility and resilience. Even the smallest tasks builds character.
