Here is an excerpt from my upcoming book: The Dad Your Daughters See due out later this year. The chapter speak to behaviour and mental health illness and its predictability. These are my thoughts on tech:
"How a child learns new skills, specifically social skills is experienced in a new way this century. With every screen, every Youtube ad, Netflix binge or Instagram post all people are experiencing influence from countless sources daily on the internet or gaming, not just young people. This is the time when people can be anyone else or an alter ego online that only posts highlights of their life or the persona of someone to entertain but we have no prediction for the future of technology and human capacity.
I believe we should tread lightly on allowing screens and tech to cross over in your obsessions. I believe that with every new feat or great invention there was a generational boom that became so obsessed with it that it got engrained in culture. This is that implicit memory coming back. Once something is engrained in culture it is very difficult to unlearn. Think: systematic racism or sexism."
Thanks for reading, Leave me a comment on if you prefer paperback, hard cover or electronic (and for which devices). It will really help me to narrow my options when I publish.
